Removing electricity and gas meters from service

Removing electricity and gas meters from service (infographic)
Long description of the infographic

On occasion, utilities or other service providers must remove electricity and gas meters from service to:

  • test them to make sure they continue to measure accurately
  • replace them when they are defective or broken
  • test them when a complaint about their accuracy is filed with us
  • perform routine meter maintenance

Your utility or service provider must notify you in advance that they will be removing your meter. Once they remove it, they will immediately replace it with another certified meter.
